France is one of the worst countries in the world. Aside from it being France, there are legitimate reasons why France is so terrible. This essay will be an in depth analyzation of France's realized and potential sucktitudiality.
First of all, French people are extremely introverted. So much so that they can't even get things accomplished. I mean, how afraid of other people do you have to be to build giant walls around your house and top them with shards of glass, as many homes in France are? How the hell do they expect to be efficient if they can't even communicate?
Another reason why France is terrible is because of their extreme racism. Due to the decolonization of the post-WWII world, the French granted full citizenship to all their former colonies, which included Angola and many parts of Northern Africa, most of Indochina, and Polynesia. Granted, not every Frenchman is a racist, but the fact that they have an entire political party dedicated to the expulsion of North Africans, Muslims, Jews, and basically any non-which, non-Catholic, non-ethnic French out of the country, you have to assume something sucky is going on. Especially since the National Front (said party) almost won France's election this year.
This segways to another problem with France, voter apathy. No country is safe from voter apathy, but France is just rediculous. When the National Front almost won the elections by getting a landslide 80-some-odd percent, less than 40 percent of the country's registered voters voted. Granted, they turned out in full force to stop the National Front, but other than that, France's voter turn out has been extremely low, one of the lowest in the world.
Another problem with France is their government fostered on laziness. Thanks to Napoleon's great civil services, the French have prided themselves on what they do for the people of their country. This includes unemployment. Companies and individual workers pay huge taxes to fund unemployment, which a person can live off of forever, as it has no limits. This, coupled with the fact that French companies offer giant severance packages to their workers and the unwillingness of French workers to move to where jobs are, has created the highest unemployment rate in Europe, and one of the highest in the world. Well over 40% of the French workforce is currently unemployed.
Yet another problem with France is their denial of their past. In WWII, many of the French sided with the Nazis after they overtook France. After the war was over, however, the French Government deemed the Vichy Government illegal, and thusly, any atrocities committed by the high-ranking officials were not to be dealt with by their 4th republic. Not until recently has France begun to hunt down Vichy officials and try them for the deportation of Jews to German death camps.
Another problem with France is their discontinuity with Government. Since the mid-18th century, France has gone from a monarchy, to a limited dictatorship, to an oligarchy, back to a republic, to a military dictatorship, to an empire, to another republic, to a military dictatorship, to another republic, to a Nazi puppet dictatorship, to another republic, to another republic. A country that changes governments like we change underwear certainly sucks.
Another reason France sucks is their stupid current government. The 5th Republic, set up by Charles DeGaulle in the 1950's, gives the president more power than in any other system of government, including the most rediculous piece of legistlature ever. Under Article 16 of the French Constitution, in the event of a National Emergency, the president becomes an absolute dictator. This, in theory, makes sense, but the only person who can declare a National Emergency is the president. He also declares when it is over. No elections are held during a National Emergency either. Luckily, this "privilege" has yet to be abused, but it is not a question of whether or not it will happen, but how long.
Another aspect of France's history is sucky. The French seem to have produced a long line of ultra-megalomaniacs. Clovis, Charles Martel, Charlegmagne and his sons, Louis IX-XV, Maximillien Robespierre, Napoleon's I and III, and, most recently, Charles DeGaulle. This "great" legacy of French leaders has lead many current leaers to attempt to follow in their foot steps. This, coupled with deep animosities between leftist parties and rightist parties, has created stalemates in the government. Especially now since the premier of Frence is a Socialist, and the President is a member of the Rally for the Republic Party, France's equivalent to our Republican party. They haven't spoken to eachother or even been in the same room for six months.
So, as you can see, France sucks a whole lot of ass. They really should get it together.
